Lang Syne Welsh Family Clan Information History Fact Book - Rees
Bearers of the name of Rees today are heirs to a rich and colourful heritage rooted deep in the ancient soil of Wales.
While some found fame through their heroic resistance to a succession of invaders, others have gained acclaim through more peaceful pursuits that include politics, the stage, music, the sciences and sport. In British politics, Merlyn Rees was the Welsh Labour Party politician and holder of high government office born in 1920 in Cilfynydd, near Pontypridd, Glamorgan.
Entering full-time politics in 1963 through his election as Labour MP for what was then the constituency of Leeds South, he stepped down from the House of Commons in 1992, after having held posts that included Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and Home Secretary; created a life peer as Baron Merlyn-Rees, he died in 2006.
The proud and vibrant tale of bearers of the Rees name is recorded here.
