With roots firmly embedded in the ancient soil of Wales, early bearers of what would become the proud name of Bowen were for centuries at the centre of some of the most turbulent events in the nation’s history.

In more recent times, many have achieved honours and distinction through a wide and colourful range of endeavours and pursuits that include the law and the sciences, journalism, the stage, sport, music and literature.

Edward George Bowen was the Welsh physicist who made a significant contribution to Allied victory during the Second World War through his work, along with Robert Watson-Watt and others, on the development of radar.

In contemporary times, Jeremy Bowen is the award-winning Welsh journalist, foreign correspondent and television presenter born in Cardiff in 1960.

The vibrant tale of the Bowens is recounted here.
