Of original Norman stock, two important families of the Barclay name became established in Scotland and contributed in no smallpart to the nation’s history.

While some fought for the cause of freedom beside Robert the Bruce, in a later century one of their descendants became a military hero of Russia, and in more recent times others have gained recognition in the arts and as entrepreneurs.
