Lang Syne Irish Family Clan Information History Fact Book - Boyle
As the original Gaelic-Irish clan of Ó Baoighill, the Boyles have been a noted presence in the Emerald Isle from the earliest times.
Further influxes of bearers of the name came in later centuries in the form of ruthless and ambitious Anglo-Norman adventurers, while a further strain came from the neighbouring Celtic nation of Scotland.
All their fates were inextricably entwined, and their colourful and often bloody saga is recounted here – a tale that also includes the decidedly more peaceful pursuits of Robert Boyle, born in Co. Waterford in 1627 and who is recognised today as ‘The Father of Chemistry.’
Behind the camera lens, Danny Boyle is the British director and producer whose many film credits include the 1996 Trainspotting and, from, 2008, Slumdog Millionaire, while he also directed the spectacular opening ceremony for the 2012 London Olympics.
The stirring tale of the Boyles of both yesteryear and today is chronicled here.
