A name with origins that stretch back to Anglo-Saxon times, ‘Shaw’ has roots that lie deep in the ancient soil of England.
While some became embroiled in civil war and civil rights, other have gained acclaim through a diverse range of other endeavours and pursuits that include literature, the stage, music and architecture.
George Bernard Shaw, born in Dublin in 1856, was the great Irish dramatist whose acclaimed plays include Pygmalion, later to become famous as the musical and film My Fair Lady; a recipient of a Nobel Prize for Literature, he died at the age of 94.
On the silver screen, Robert Shaw was the British actor who, before his death in 1978, starred in films that include From Russia with Love, The Sting and Jaws.
