Of ancient roots, ‘Foster’ appears in the historical record at a very early date, with one noted bearer being knighted for his services after accompanying England’s Richard the Lionheart on the Third Crusade of 1189 to 1193.
Others have achieved fame through more peaceful pursuits, with one particularly intrepid bearer of the name the early nineteenth century British naval officer Henry Foster, who carried out a number of notable scientific observations and experiments while on expeditions to both the Arctic and Antarctic.
On the stage, Jodie Foster is the multi-award winning actress, producer and director whose film roles include the 1976 Taxi Driver, for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress and the recipient of an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as FBI agent Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs.
The colourful and inspiring lives and times of the Fosters is told here.
