Lang Syne Scottish Clan Crest Tartan Information History Fact Book - Burnett
Originally settled in the Scottish Borders but branching out to become established in the northeast, the Burnetts gained high honours and distinction through a range of endeavours and pursuits.
A staunch supporter of Robert the Bruce, one bearer of the name was rewarded with the grant of lands on the banks of the River Dee, while the Burnett ancestral seat to this day is the magnificent Crathes Castle, now in the care of the National Trust for Scotland.
One of the greatest intellects of his time and a friend of the national bard Robert Burns, James Burnett, Lord Monboddo, was the eighteenth century judge and author who, in advance of Charles Darwin and to great ridicule at the time, proposed mankind was descended from apes.
Presented here are the colourful tales of the Burnetts.
