Many bearers of the Jenkins name have gained renown at an international level in the world of entertainment, while others have risen to prominence through a rich variety of other endeavours and pursuits.

At one time the highest paid actor in Hollywood and known for his turbulent relationship with the actress Elizabeth Taylor, Welsh-born Richard Walter Jenkins was better known by his stage name of Richard Burton.

On a musical note, one bearer of the name with an unusual claim to fame was the American amateur operatic singer Florence Foster Jenkins, born in 1868 .

She proved immensely popular with opera lovers – but unfortunately for the wrong reasons. Audiences flocked to her performances because, despite her own conviction of her greatness, she was hilariously ridiculed –of which she was blithely unaware.
