From the bloody carnage of the battlefield to the decidedly more sedate business boardroom, bearers of the proud Allan name and its variations such as ‘Allen’ have stamped an indelible mark not only on Scotland but also much further afield.

While some were martyred for their religious beliefs during the bitter seventeenth century conflict between Crown and Covenant, others have distinguished themselves across a colourful range of more peaceful pursuits.

The Allan name is also to be found on the landscape in the form of the name of a small town in Canada’s west central Saskatchewan, as a commune in the Drôme department in south-eastern France, and through Bridge of Allan – a town to the north of Stirling in the ancient Allan homeland of Scotland.
