With a heritage closely bound to some of the most dramatic episodes in the history of the Emerald Isle, the Reagans are a truly native Irish clan.

Their ancestry is illustrious, while their defence of their ancient rights and privileges was stalwart.

One particularly noted bearer of the Reagan name was the actor and politician Ronald Reagan, who served two successive terms as the 40th President of the United States.

Born in 1911 of Irish-Scots ancestry, he appeared in his first film in 1937.

Turning to politics, he served as Republican Governor of California from 1967 to 1975 and was sworn in six years later as the 40th President of the United States of America and re-elected in 1984.

He died in 2004, while his wife, who as an actress was known by the stage name of Nancy Davis and, later, as First Lady of the United States, died in 2016.

The proud tale of the Reagans is related here.
