Although a name that is particularly identified with what in earlier centuries was the frequently lawless Scottish Borders, ‘Scott’ is a name that is popular throughout the length and breadth of the British Isles, with many of its bearers stamping their mark on the historical record.

They include Lady Anne Scott, heiress to the vast Scottish estates and titles of the dukedom of Buccleuch who was married to the ill-fated James, Duke of Monmouth, the illegitimate son of Charles 11 who was executed after rising in rebellion against the monarch, while Sir Walter Scott was the late eighteenth to early nineteenth century novelist, poet and antiquarian who penned famous novels that include Waverley, Rob Roy and Heart of Midlothian.
