Although many bearers of the Moore name left their original homelands of England and Scotland to settle in Ireland, already on the island were those Moores known in Irish-Gaelic as ‘O Mordha’ and, later, as O’Moore or O’More.

‘’Mordha’, in turn, was in direct line of descent from one of the greatest figures in the illustrious roll call of Irish warriors – Conal Cearnach, the first century AD chieftain of the feared Red Branch Knights who was also famed as Conal of the Victories.

In contemporary times, famous bearers of the name include Roger Moore, the veteran actor who first came to prominence in the 1960s through his role in the television series The Saint, and who has also played the role of James Bond in a number of films of the genre that include A View to a Kill.

Shot through with high drama, the stirring tale of the Moores is recounted here.
