A name with Anglo-Saxon connections, ‘Parker’ has been present throughout the British Isles since the earliest times and features prominently in the historical record.

Born in Norwich in 1504, Matthew Parker was the Archbishop of Canterbury whose noted inquisitiveness earned him the nickname of “Nosey Parker” – now a term for someone who ‘pokes their nose’ into other people’s affairs.

On a note of infamy, Robert Parker, born in Utah in1866 and better known as Butch Cassidy was, along with the Sundance Kid, an American outlaw.

The pair were eventually killed in a shoot-out with soldiers after fleeing from justice to Bolivia. Bonnie Parker, born in Texas in 1910 was, along with Clyde Barrow, responsible for a string of robberies and murders.

Known to posterity as Bonnie and Clyde, they were killed in a shoot-out with police in 1934.

The dramatic saga of the Parkers of both yesteryear and today is recorded here.
