Lang Syne English Family Information History Fact Book - Johnson

A name of Biblical roots, ‘Johnson’, indicating ‘son of John’, was first introduced to the British Isles in the wake of the key historic event of the 1066 Norman Conquest.

This was when the last Anglo-Saxon king of England was slain at the battle of Hastings, and Normans who included the forebears of many of the Johnsons of today were granted lands as reward for their valiant service to Duke William of Normandy.
